Kendall Square Movie night - why you should care

Last Thursday evening, the Kendall Square Association helped sponsor a Family Movie night on the lawn of the Volpe Center complete with Family friendly acoustic music prior to the movie.

Folks were encouraged to bring a picnic or lawn chair to the event and both smoking and pets were discouraged.

Why would the Volpe Center and Kendall Square Association join with the Cambridge Arts Council Summer in the City program?  Liveable Communities, that's why. As the working population of Kendall Square increases, the number of automobiles in the square has actually decreased. This means more "people friendly" streets and roadways; more people also means less graffiti and an area less conducive to crime.

Kendall PRess is a manufacturing operation with most all our production taking place in Kendall Square. More than half our employees use public transportation to get to work and we all enjoy the growing number of options for non work time pleasure. Whether its kayaking on the Charles just out our backdoor, or watching a movie on the lawn with a picnic in hand; or a growing number of diverse restaurants in which to let someone else do the cooking (check out the Oct 2nd Kendall Square EatUp), Kendall Square has become a great way for us to attract good talent and great customers as we explore our own transitions and disruptions in the economy in what is becoming a very liveable, workable place.

Volpe center may have been the home of the last Star Fighter but the thought of new transportation options and diverse industries supporting innovation are exciting indeed.
