Sharpen Your Axe
We heard a story about a very strong woodcutter who received a highly sought-after position of cutting timber. He was so excited to receive the job that he was determined to do his best. On his first day, he cut down 20 trees. "Wow! Great job!" his boss said. "Keep up the excellent work!" Very motivated by his boss' words, the woodcutter tried even harder the next day, but he could only bring down 18 trees. The third day he could only bring down 16 trees, and the amount slowly diminished daily. "I must be losing my strength," the woodcutter thought. He went to his boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on. The boss simply asked, "When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" The man replied. "I guess I've been so busy cutting trees that I haven't had time to sharpen my axe."
Here's the way we see it: It's easy to become so busy in our daily lives that we often don't take time to sharpen our axe.
